Adam’s Peak is a focused pilgrimage site for over 1000 years.
Various histories built about Adam’s peak include “the place where Adam set foot after being cast out of heaven”, Sacred footprint of Lord Buddha, Footprint of St. Thomas or the footprint of Lord Shiva. Poetically it’s known as Samanalakande- Butterfly Mountain, where butterflies go to die. During the Adam’s Peak season the route at night is glowing with a ribbon of lights as if an aisle leading to the heavens. It’s a breath taking site to see. At the summit there is a temple with the sacred footprint where all pilgrims go to worship. They climb up this never ending pathway for the miraculous blessings and hoping to see the astonishing process of sunrise while they are top.
